Big Time is a multiplayer time travel game that aims to make collectable NFTs accessible to everyone

The hype around non-fungible tokens (NFT) has already affected several sectors, including art, music and sports memorabilia. Video games are no exception here. Now a new game has collected 21 million US dollars, with the mission to make collectable NFTs accessible to everyone.

Big Time Studios will invest in gaming companies that adopt its technology with a just launched $ 11 million fund. According to a report by VentureBeat the studio has previously received $ 10.3 million from investors including FBG Capital, Alameda Research, OKEx Blockdream Ventures, Circle Financial, Digital Currency Group, North Island Ventures and Sound Ventures.

Big Time Studios, based in Los Angeles, was founded by entrepreneur Ari Meilich and game developer Thor Alexander. These names may be familiar to some in the crypto realm: they were co-founders or deputy heads of production at the blockchain-driven virtual world Decentraland, which pioneered NFTs. Big Time Studios was founded in April 2020 after Decentraland became an independent, decentralized organization.

Mostly explained: „After we decentralized the project, Thor and I started working on this new company, hoping to make blockchain gaming accessible to a mass audience. Over the past few years, we have learned that while there is a high demand for NFTs, it comes from a very tech-oriented niche audience. We found that with the current user experience, it was impossible to scale to millions of users: users had to set up wallets, adjust their assets, and could lose them forever if they moved their private keys.“

Like Decentraland, the Big Time Studios team has previous experience with companies such as EA, Riot, Epic Games and Blizzard, and has worked on game franchises such as Call of Duty, Fortnite, Overwatch and God of War.

Big Time will be a multiplayer action role-playing game (RPG) where players can experience adventures in space and time with friends. Players travel through time, meet famous personalities from history and take part in historical battles in which they collect NFTs as loot and thus decorate their avatar or time machine.

With the game, Big Time Studios initially addresses the markets of North America and Europe. It is currently being developed as a PC version and is expected to be released in 2022.
